Usually I wake up before 9:00 and work from 9:30 to 12:30 every Saturday. Then, I go to the supermarket with my mother. On Sundays, I go out with my friends. We always go out somewhere. For example, we go shopping, see a movie, or go to a festival!! I love going out with my friends. Last Saturday, I worked and ate lunch with my co-worker. After lunch, I went back home and made a photo & message album for my friend’s birthday! It was really hard for me. I gave it to her on Tuesday and she was very pleased! I was very happy. On Sunday, I went to the tulip fair in Tonami City with my friend. It was my second time to visit there. The day was very sunny and nice! I really enjoyed myself. I came back to Toyama City and went to a book store to buy a Tokyo Disney Sea guide book. Yesterday(Tuesday), I went to there with my friend. It was really dream land for me. I watched a lot of disney characters and show. I want to go there again! Next weekend, I’m going to work and go to a supermarket with my mother on Saturday, and I’m going to go the sea on Sunday! I want the weather to be good. May 5th and 6th are my mother and grandmother’s birthdays, so I will buy presents for them. I’m looking forward to next weekend!

Unit3: Frendlly Message

Hi Natsumi,

How are you? I am pretty good! It is Wednesday afternoon, and I am sitting in a classroom at TCFL.Today is a sunny day in Toyama, Japan. I am sitting at a small square table near the window of the class room. I am reading a book and feel a little sleepy.

I had very interesting summer vacation. I went to Nagoya, Japan with my friend Toshie. We enjoyed shopping and ate out a lot of cafes and restaurants, and we went to this trip’s big event, an open air rock concert at Toyota Stadium called “Treasure.” We really enjoyed this concert, and we were pleased to meet our favorite musicians!! It was my best memory of this summer. Other good memories were going out with my friends a lot, going to a fireworks display, and swimming in the sea and a pool! I made a lot of great memories. I begin a job next spring, so this is my last summer vacation. Therefore I want to enjoy school life more and more!!

I hope you are fine and are enjoying your life. How’s it going recently? When will you come to Toyama for a visit? Are you busy now?  Please write soon.

Your friend,

Shiori

Unit5: Shiori’s First Day at TCFL

Today was Shiori’s first day at her college, “TCFL” (Toyama College of Foreign Languages. She woke up early and prepared for school. She was very nervous and excited about the day. At 7:40am, Shiori got out of bed and got dressed. When she went to the living room, her mother said “Good morning. Are you excited about school?” She smiled and said, “Yes, mom. I’m very excited!” They ate breakfast together. At 8:40am, she left home and she went to the college by bike.
When Shiori arrived at school, she entered a classroom. There were a lot of students, so she was nervous. Later, she made some students named Toshie and Haruka. They were friends of her friend Mami, so she knew their faces. Daringly, she spoke to them. They knew about Shiori, so they easily talked about school, friends, and themselves. Finally they became good friends. Of course, Shiori met a lot of future friends on that first day. She really enjoyed it!
Shiori’s first day of college was a little scary, but she enjoyed herself a lot! Since then, she has made more and more friends at the college, and she has studied English hard. In the end, Shiori would never forget her first day of college life.

Unit7: My life Before and After Judo

Practicing Judo has really changed my life. I’ve always loved sports. I learned gymnastics and volleyball when I was an elementary school student. However, I’ve also done many other things. For example, I went to cram school for math and Japanese and took calligraphy lessons. I wanted to be a police officer when I was 10 years old. Therefore I started to do Judo. I never knew that my life before Judo would have some similarities and differences to my life after Judo.
Before Judo, I often got sick. I was hospitalized sometimes for medical checkups or something. But, my personality was vigorous, so I had a lot of friends and with went out with them. On weekends, I used to spend a lot of time with friends and family. I liked to play at a park, go shopping, and eat out.

Then, I went to my first Judo class when I was 10 years old. Everyday I went to early morning practice to enhance my strength, so eventually I had a lot of confidence in my it. Many parts of my life changed, but some stayed the same. When I went to the practice, I was a little nervous because there were a lot of people whom I didn’t know. Later, I talked to some girls who were my age, and we became good friends! Since that day, I have changed so much. First, my body condition has become better, so I don’t have to go to the hospital very much anymore. My parents are so glad, and I’m happy too! On weekends, I still go out with my elementary school friends and eat out with my family, but  also go out with my Judo friends. Once every three months I participate in Judo competitions and sometimes win a prize! I get much confidence from this. It has changed my life in so many wonderful ways!

Unit 9: Cocco (Tomoko Makishi)
Cocco is my ideal person. She has a lot of ability in art, music, and poetry. Cocco loves her home in Okinawa and I love it too. Cocco’s voice is so nice, and I like her lyrics. She works on ecology issues and releases movies to raise awareness about the dangerous nuclear fuel reprocessing facility in Aomori.
Cocco was born on January 19, 1977 in Okinawa. In 1995 she graduated from Kaihou High School in Okinawa. In 1997, she released her major label debut single, “Count-Down”. She went on to record three more albums and eleven singles. On April 20, 2001 suddenly, she announced her retirement. After this, she published her first art book, “Minami no Shima no Hoshi no Suna” and went on to publish two more books. She organized a benefit concert to raise awareness about cleaning up beaches in Okinawa on August 15, 2003. She came back to singing and released “Onsoku Panti” in 2006. In addition, her documentary movie, “Daijohbu de aru yoh ni cocco: The Endless Journey” was released on December 13, 2008 in Japan.
Cocco is my ideal person because I want to live like her. I hope everyone in the world learns about the nuclear fuel reprocessing facility in Aomori. It is very dangerous for people who live nearby there, but some of them don’t know about the risk. Of course, many Japanese don’t know about it either. Recently, high radioactive waste water (about 21 liters) was released from the facility. According to the Japanese government, it will not influence humans. Cocco’s actions are always right and meaningful. In the future, I want to be like her.
